He calls her "Sugar" and she calls him "syrup." The suite they live in is on Gingerbread Lane. As you can see, they are sharing the same piece of candy. This is symbolic of their sharing all things in their lives. During Valentine's Day, gnomes are allowed to eat as much candy as they want because they wish to be as sweet as possible on February 14th. But just in case they are tempted to eat too many pieces on the days that follow, there is a coin from the Bahamas on the base depicting a pig that ate one sweet too many!
